Academic WorldQuest

Sponsored by the World Affairs Council of the Desert

Academic WorldQuest is a team game testing competitors' knowledge of world affairs, geography, history, culture, countries, current events, and more. A team consists of 4 high school students. They may be freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors. Also, each team must have a coach. Spirit Awards are given to teams with the Most Spirit, Most Appropriate International Dress, and Most Professional Dress.

DATE: December 8, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

LOCATION: Indian Wells Theater at the Palm Desert Campus of California State University
San Bernardino located at 37-500 Cook Street in Palm Desert.

Cash prizes are awarded to each student on the top three teams: 1st Place $500; 2nd Place $300; 3rd place $200. Each coach receives a $225 stipend and a one year free membership to the World Affairs Council of the Desert. Pending available funding, the winning team and coach receive an expense-free trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the National Academic WorldQuest competition held each year in the Spring. For this trip, the coach of the winning team receives an additional $775 stipend.

In addition to the competition, students and the coach of each team are invited to attend at no cost one of the World Affair Council’s Sunday evening speaker/dinner meetings at the Renaissance Esmeralda featuring a speaker knowledgeable on a subject of world importance.
